3DS negative press subsides, WII price cut?
The recent negative press surrounding 3DS has thankfully died down, far more positive reports on software releases and potential price cuts are now circulating around the web.

A raft of 3DS titles will make their way onto the Nintendo handheld in the next couple of months. “Dead or Alive: Dimensions” will fly kick it’s way onto 3DS on the 30th May, “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” will hit UK 3DS on June 17th. The remake of the Zelda classic will be released a full two days before the US release.

Other reports suggest that 3DS will be a success but won’t eclipse the DS in sales. According to IHS Screen Digest, the 3DS will sell 11.6m units by the end of 2011 and predicts that by 2015 this will rise to a global installed base of 70m. This compares to 91m for the DS and DS Lite at the same point in its life cycle.

IHS’ lead games analyst Piers Harding Rolls had this to say

“Nintendo’s accent on network services in the key US market represents an attempt to convince users to carry their 3DS systems with them at all times and to engage with the platform everyday and in every place,”

“This engagement strategy, alongside 3D graphics, camera and video, is key to Nintendo competing with upcoming devices from Sony and also from non-specialist smartphones, entertainment devices and tablets, which offer a legitimate alternative to handheld consoles.”

However it’s not only about 3DS, with a number of releases due for DS and WII, “Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie” (a remake of a SNES RPG) will be available on May 20th. Wii Play: Motion a package containing 12 mini games that utilize WII MotionPlus has also been announced. Some reports also indicated that the WII will be reduced to $150 on the 15th May which would make sense as WII hardware sales have slowed recently.
